For today’s Smoothie Sunday, as it is the first since two weeks, I decided to go big. This means Making a Smoothie with other ingredients than just fruit. I decided to buy some organic beets and carrots on the farmers market, combined with some tasty, fruity berries and watermelon.
Ingredients:
- Beets
- Carrots
- Raspberries
- Blueberries
- Watermelon
- Basil
- Mint
As we are making a smoothie with the vegetables that are hard when you get them, I used the Babycook from Beaba
to steam the carrots and the beets. Don’t overcook the carrots and the beets, otherwise the smoothie will become a mess of slimy vegetable pulp.
Carrots
Carrots are extremely nutritious and rich in vitamins A, B and C; iron; calcium; potassium and sodium. Carrots have a cleansing effect on the liver and digestive system, help prevent the formation of kidney stones and relieve arthritis. For smoothies, carrots are a great ingredient to use, as they are naturally sweet. Carrots can be used in almost any smoothie recipe.
Beets
Beets are high in vitamin A and the enzyme betaine. Betaine nourishes and strengthens the liver and gallbladder. Beets are also full of potassium. Eating beets will have a cleansing effect on the liver, kidneys and gallbladder. For smoothies you can use cooked fresh, frozen or canned beets with any juice. We use fresh organic beets off course!
My Sunday Smoothie #4
The smoothie with carrots and beets was wonderful tasty. The raspberries and watermelon made the smoothie juicy and sweet, where the carrots and beets made the smoothie ultra healthy!
