My question for this post is: Can Facebook becoming the startup page/portal like AOL tried to be back in 1995, but than smarter?
There are a number of features I see on Facebook which are helpful for me. Take the games for today, with their scores, in the right bar. Ad first, I only see 4, but I can expand to all, where I see 6 with the current score. As someone working in sports, and super engaged in everything going on right now with the Euro Cup 2016, even if my country has not qualified, and Copa America here in the US, and off course our Bay Area GS Warriors, this integration is right up in my alley. But do all Facebook users get the same treatment?
Now I would be interested in a follow up question; and I hope some of my Facebook friends would be able to give me more information. Does this feature show up for me because I’ve posted so much about these sport events? I mean, I liked a lot of sports team pages here on Facebook, I’ve posted and checked in at the games of Copa America I’ve been to, and every game of the Warriors, I add the score to my post.
These are all signals which can be used by Facebook to create a personalized experience for me, where somebody who doesn’t like sports, would not see any score board, and somebody who has never interacted with soccer games on Facebook but does add the score of the NBA to their posts, would only see the Warriors – Cavaliers score. At least, this is how I would build it if I was Facebook product team and had the resources available.
Smart, personalized integrations make the platform more valuable for its users. There is no need for me to go to Google, and type in Euro 2016 scores, as Facebook already knows based on my interactions with its data, what I would like to see.
A couple of questions for my readers:
- Do you see the Today’s Games feature on Facebook?
- If yes, do you see;
- NBA finals
- Copa America
- Euro 2016
- If you see all three, do you see these in the same order
- If you don’t like sports at all, and you don’t see these games, what else do you see?

For a change I don’t see anything today but yes I would imagine they could certainly make it work the question is if people want to see live scores 24/7?
I see more than a few posts from people they couldn’t watch the game live so don’t ruin it until they have seen it…

Facebook is the startpage for my mobile browsing. My intent and behavior is completely different on a mobile device vs my desktop. Trending is more effective on mobile than on desktop i tend to get more suggestions on my mobile device.
I miss the customization aspects of iGoogle, if they brought that back i would make it my start page in a heartbeat.
Haha, shouldn’t you be charging for that kind of knleowdge?!
