While working on the New eBay Pulse, which is displaying popular keywords on top blogs in their niche. I happen to notice a cool new word: Socktoberfest. (check the archive for Crafts on October 16)
As it was October, I could imagine that there is something around Socks in October.
I checked the word in Google, and it appears there is a lively community who knits socks in October and corresponds on the Internet about their creations.
Apparently it all started on a blog Lollygirl.com, where Lolly started Socktoberfest a couple of years ago.
There is a lively community on Flickr, where they post pictures of the socks:
